Week Note #235

We seem to be stuck in a pitch phase right now. Everyone in the department is working on at least one of them, some are involved in various. Which is another way of saying: we’re quite busy here right now. With the heat ,the final days of the world cup and what not there wasn’t much time for anything else.

That’s not really good, because there is a lot of future and cognitive cities planing to be done. Thankfully, Peter was catching all the balls that have been dropped on that account, so a big thanks to him for that. I’m trying to get back into the game this week, but I really need to work on the ‘tude right now.

I’ve spent the weekend at my parents, chilling, meeting friends and picking a very wrong/hot moment to get on my bike and trying to master a mountain (success was mine, but only after a couple of heart attacks …). That left me with enough space to think and brought me closer to fully realizing that I’m soon will be in charge of my time.

That, of course, is mostly very desirable. Mostly, because with the realization that one can actually whatever one wants comes also the realization that it’s really not as easy as that. I will have to learn to manage my time, because that’s something that I practically didn’t really need to learn in a big agency. Working with a lot of colleagues is like working with a big safety net – everyone is looking out for the other colleagues involved in the process. It’s really hard not to be on time, because there is a process in place (there is of course chaos in every agency, but it’s a different kind of an issue).

I knew that. At least on a certain level. That’s why I never really wanted to be a freelancer. Working on my own seems like a not very smart idea for me and I’m happy that I will share my future after the job at the agency with other people who will help me to get a grip on things that needs to be done vs. the things that I want to do.

P.S.: If you’re, on a hot Friday evening, somewhere in the proximity of Heidelberg, you should make a trip to the city center. It’s really beautiful, people are everywhere and since there is no air conditioning in the bars, pubs and restaurants everybody is standing in front of them drinking and eating. All this embedded in a city that keeps reminding everyone in every second that it’s very old and wise.
