Firefox / Tree Style Tab

I’ve been reading about what Oliver and Aza are seeing as the future of Firefox and I fell instantly in love with the idea to move tabs (or whatever they will be called in the future) from the top to the right (or left) side of the browser. I’m not a designer or a UI specialist, so I can’t really professionally judge this approach, but it makes so much sense. As Aza told it: vertical height is a scarce resource.

It was also Aza’s blog post which navigated me to the Tree Style Tab and I’ve been playing with it ever since. It’s not quite a disintegration of tabs, but it does move them to the right place and I will stick with this addon for now, because it did change my approach to browsing and structuring information in my browser.

  1. The real kicker about Tree Style Tab is the hierarchical nature of its tab list: Links opened as new tabs become sub-items of the originating page, and the individual tree branches are collapsible. Which is a boon for organization and maintaining a good overview. Great extension!
