Red state is barking again.

Let me begin by saying: I’m not a Microsoft fan, but to watch how a company like Microsoft gets hit by those (very funny) Apple Ads without getting it back … it almost made me feel sorry for them.

They felt sorry for themselves too and then they hired a big, fancy and very expensive agency that should make their life a bit easier. At first, that didn’t really work out that well. Crispin Porter + Boguksy are usually known for their right on the spot ads, but the whole idea with Seinfeld and Bill Gates just didn’t catch up with the rest of us.

The new campaign … well, it’s working. Take a look:

That’s a so called Main St. kind of tv ad. It’s hitting the largest portion of the US population and is telling them: well, you’re not alone without an Mac and that’s ok, because you can actually have a very cool PC that is also very cheap.

Topolsky is especially trenchant. “This is almost a red-state-blue-state ad,” he says.

Yes, it’s definitely that kind of a tv ad and that brings me to the “not liking Microsoft at all”. Why? Well, according to their agency they are Republicans and that means they are George W. Bush and that means … well, hopefully we’ll see that in one of the new Apple Ads.
